Communal Tables
After a few days of waiting to receive table legs, we started building the new tables for the cafe this week. We like big tables; they’re flexible for groups of different sizes, and fosters egalitarianism and a sense of community. Our newest addition will be right in the window spot, currently occupied by a long, narrow table. It’s curved along one side, to increase individual space while keeping things close enough to allow conversation.
While we’ve gotten the thumbs up from the Board of Zoning Appeal to increase our seating capacity, the Legal Department is going to conduct an official review as a standard step in the process before the city issues the permit. In another 7-10 days, we should have a permit issued and we’ll bring up the new tables and chairs.
